BC.<br>Depression, or Major Depressive Disorder, is a common mental health condition that affects a significant proportion of the population and can occur across a wide range of age groups.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-96d3138 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"96d3138\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThe core features and diagnostic criteria for depression, as defined by the American DSM-5 classification system, include:<br><br>&nbsp;<br><ol>\r\n \t<li><strong>Depressed mood<\/strong> \u2013 a persistent feeling of sadness for most of the day (feeling sad, empty, or hopeless).<\/li>\r\n \t<li><strong>Loss of interest or pleasure (anhedonia)<\/strong> \u2013 a marked reduction in interest or enjoyment in almost all activities for most of the day.<\/li>\r\n \t<li><strong>Appetite disturbance<\/strong> \u2013 significant weight loss or gain, or changes in appetite.<\/li>\r\n \t<li><strong>Sleep disturbance<\/strong> \u2013 either insomnia or hypersomnia.<\/li>\r\n \t<li><strong>Psychomotor agitation or retardation<\/strong> \u2013 noticeable by others, not merely subjective feelings of restlessness or slowing down.<\/li>\r\n \t<li><strong>Fatigue or loss of energy.<\/strong><\/li>\r\n \t<li><strong>Feelings of worthlessness or excessive guilt.<\/strong><\/li>\r\n \t<li><strong>Difficulty concentrating<\/strong> \u2013 reduced ability to think clearly, focus, or make decisions.<\/li>\r\n \t<li><strong>Recurrent thoughts of death<\/strong> \u2013 suicidal ideation, suicide attempts, or a concrete plan for suicide.<\/li>\r\n<\/ol><br>&nbsp;<br><br>These symptoms lead to clinically significant distress or impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning.<br><br><strong>Treatment for Depression<\/strong><br>Effective management of depression involves ongoing psychiatric supervision, appropriate medication, supportive psychotherapy, psychological counselling, group therapy, psychoeducation, as well as therapeutic and recreational group
