The absence of a supportive family environment \u2014 one that can adequately meet the patient\u2019s daily needs and appropriately address the remaining psychopathological symptoms despite ongoing medication \u2014 is often the most important and frequent challenge for this group of patients.

The severity of certain psychiatric conditions \u2014 such as schizophrenia \u2014 together with frequent relapses and the resulting dysfunction or disability, are among the key reasons that make continuous residence in a high-care, closely monitored environment essential for some patients.

In caring for these patients, our primary goal is to prevent frequent relapses or exacerbations of the psychiatric illness, which often represent the main reason for admission. At the same time, participation in psychotherapeutic groups aims to help patients develop or maintain essential skills and sustain an adequate level of functioning.

Finally, it is important to highlight that psychoeducation for the family is of great significance. It is designed to help relatives better understand the mental health condition and encourages regular communication to preserve family bonds, while respecting the particular challenges that often exist in the care of patients with chronic psychiatric disorders.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/details>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t

Our first priority is to identify and prevent any self-harm or aggressive behaviour, while always safeguarding the safety and dignity of our patients.

 

A thorough clinical assessment by our psychiatrists plays a crucial role in reaching an accurate diagnosis and in shaping a clear treatment plan.

An elderly patient may be living with physical conditions such as cardiovascular, neurological or mobility-related disorders. Frequently, these coexist with psychiatric illnesses, making the care of older adults particularly complex.
In response to these needs, psychogeriatrics<\/strong> has increasingly become a specialised field within psychiatry, focusing on the mental health challenges of the ageing population.

 

The presentation of mental health disorders in later life \u2014 as well as their treatment \u2014 often differs significantly from that in younger adults, requiring a tailored approach and specialised expertise.

The care of psychogeriatric patients requires a well-coordinated, continuous collaboration among a multidisciplinary team \u2014 including physicians of various specialties, nursing staff, administrative and support personnel \u2014 in order to meet the complex healthcare needs of these patients.
